Name Untitled's Fall show!

Hello everyone,

We need ideas for our fall show title. Come to the meeting this week and join in for the brainstorming of ideas. How does it work? Those who attend the meeting can give suggestions – everything from serious themes to random silliness. After the meeting, a survey will go up online for everyone to vote on the suggested titles. The title will be announced at next week’s meeting.

By the way, Untitled meetings take place every Wednesday at 7:30pm at Kazu restaurant in Cummins Station. (209 10th Ave. South)

GLOW artists who sold work may pick up their check at this week’s meeting.

FALL SHOW
The fall show will take place on Friday, September 14th, 6-10pm. The location is yet to be determined.
Check the news section of our website for all the important dates and deadlines.

****NEW****
Take the poll on the news section of the Untitled website (^^above^^). Have suggestions for a weekly poll? Email us!

Looking forward to everyone’s title ideas at this week’s meeting!

GLOW recap

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for making our annual fundraiser, GLOW, a success. If your work sold at the show, you will be able to pick up your check at next week’s meeting on August 8th. We will alert you if there are any changes.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to our venue – The Bar Car, DJ Synapse Trap, volunteers, sponsors, patrons, dancers, hula girls, and of course participating artists.

This week’s newsletter will be very brief as we recover from last week’s show.

At this week’s meeting we will do a recap of the GLOW show – what went well and what didn’t and how we can improve in the future. We’d love to hear from all who were involved or attended. Meetings are not as stuffy as they sound. Come and share a drink with a friend, meet some new friends, or tell us about your latest project that you’re excited about. And yep, they’re open to everyone.

“Meeting” place & time:
Kazu Restaurant in Cummins Station
7:30pm

Other news:

It’s a new month, August already. This means there’s a downtown gallery crawl this Saturday. Did you know there’s a free shuttle that will take you around town? I bet it’s air conditioned.
Check it out here:

GLOW: An Illuminated Art Event

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 12, 2007

UNTITLED’S FIFTH ANNUAL SUMMER FUNDRAISER,

“GLOW: An Illuminated Art Event”

Nashville, TN.

On Friday night, July 27, 2007 the BarCar in Cummins Station will open its doors to Untitled’s annual midsummer’s night show, “Glow: An Illuminated Art Event.” This one-night only art gala and silent auction is sure to get “glowing” reviews with its featured luminous & black-lit art. The excitement will include prize drawings, interactive art displays, live hip-hop dance, & music by D.J. Synapse Trap.

The BarCar in Cummins Station hosts this night of uncensored art for unlimited audiences that will feature diverse art from artists located in the Nashville and the middle Tennessee region. Local photography group, SNAP, will host a digital projection slideshow themed, "Night", across a 9 foot screen.

The art party of the summer, “Glow: An Illuminated Art Event” celebrates more than a decade-old Nashville tradition of self-lit and black-lit art shows and hopes to raise money for Untitled’s own artist-run non-profit organization and its unique art programs.

In its sixteen years of existence, Untitled has offered emerging artists opportunities to shine and develop their talents while illuminating the Nashville community with radiant artistic perspectives and incandescent artistic experiences. Untitled artists are a culturally diverse group who work democratically and cooperatively outside the traditionally conservative gallery setting.

Join us Friday July 27th from 7- 11:00 p.m. in the BarCar in Cummins Station, located at 209 10th Avenue south. A $5 donation is requested at the door with 10% of art sales benefiting Untitled Artists Group.

Patrons may enter to win door prizes provided by businesses such as Plaza Artist Materials, Essense Day Spa, Blue Coast Burrito, Kazu Restaurant, and many more!

GLOWING ARTISTS:

Get your glowing ideas started with some general guidelines for the GLOW SHOW:

The GLOW Show is an art show featuring luminous and black-lit art; also it is Untitled's annual fundraiser. Same as previous years’ glow shows, we will ask for a $5 donation at the door.

Artists and volunteers get in free.

We hope to have as many artists as possible to enter black-lit or luminous pieces into the show. (Black-lit art is art that will glow when placed under a black light. Luminous art is self-lit--i.e., light boxes, light sculptures or other artwork that have an internal light source.) Please review the information below - then get out and GLOW.

*******************************************

Participation fees:

Luminous artwork - $15

Black-lit artwork - $20

Black-lit artwork (artist provides own black light fluorescent tube to suspend above artwork) -$15

********************************************

General considerations:

-Downy and other liquid fabric softeners will glow under black light.

-Borax will also glow under black light.

-Fluorescent chalk, pencils and clay all glow under black light, but fluorescent spray does not.

-Some phosphorescent objects (like the adhesive stars you can put on your

ceiling) will fade gradually after being out of direct light for a while.

-Wildfire and Rosco are two paint brands with excellent fluorescent colors

- Did you know that tonic water, toothpaste, and vitamin B all glow in black light?

For more on what looks pretty in the dark purple light, visit http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howthingswork/f/blblacklight.htm
