WINTER SHOW TITLE - Call for Poster Designs

Hello everyone,

MEETING

We meet this Wednesday, October 10^th at 7:30pm at Kazu in Cummins Station. (209 10th avenue south)

WINTER SHOW TITLE

Thanks for the great turnout last week; we whittled down a long list of strong titles to one. CHILL will be the title of our show on Friday, December 14.

Thanks to your efforts we also landed a location just off the Vandy Campus at Layl'a off 20th avenue. Watch for an artist and volunteer sign up link in mid November.

If you already know what you’re submitting, send us a JPEG for possible inclusion in the press release. (that’s JPEG, 300 DPI)

POSTER DESIGN CONTEST

Now that we have named CHILL, we need a poster! Untitled has a history of stellar posters, many start and stay in the digital realm, however we've also used drawings, paintings, and lots of other mediums to get to a winning poster design. If you're inspired by the title, work on a piece and bring it to the meeting October 24 to be voted on.

Untitled needs a Title

WINTER SHOW

It’s time to choose a Winter show title. Make a difference, make a statement, make a title.
Join your friends at Untitled, Wednesday - October 3, 2007, 7:30 PM at Kazu. (map on website)

Choosing the Winter show title isn't complicated, you nominate your candidate title, everyone votes; and, depending on who's counting the ballots, we democratically choose a winning title. Make sense?
So bring your ideas to Wednesday’s meeting. (yes, you must come to the meeting – or email us before 5pm Wednesday)

We’re also accepting volunteers for the Winter show chairs. Besides art, nothings more important to Untitled than volunteers. Come out Wednesday and offer your expertise for the last show of 2007!

Sweet Tea follow-up at tonight's meeting

MEETING / NEWS

We will be meeting this Wednesday, September 26th at 7:30pm. Meetings are always open to ALL artists and are casual and friendly.
Location: Kazu restaurant in Cummins Station (209 10th avenue south). Parking: FREE There is a lot on the corner of 10th and Lea. Street parking is also free at the time of our meeting.

At this week’s meeting:

- Artists who sold work at Sweet Tea may pick up their checks.

- We will discuss the good and the bad of Sweet Tea. What went well, what didn’t go so well, and how can we improve in the future? If you were involved in Sweet Tea in any way, please try to make it to the meeting. If you can’t make the meeting, send us an email and tell us your thoughts.

- The December show will need some attention soon. We would like to start getting folks involved by volunteering for chairs, brainstorming for titles, discussing the possibility of live work, etc. Bring your ideas!

- Untitled is planning a documentary. Wanna know more and need to find out about how you can get involved? Come to the meeting.

UNTITLED PRESENTS FALL SHOW 2007: "SWEET TEA"

UNTITLED ARTISTS GROUP PRESENTS FALL SHOW 2007: "SWEET TEA" Nashville, TN Nashville's UNTITLED artists' group invites you to enjoy a tall, cool glass of "Sweet Tea", Friday, September 14th at Bar Twenty3. This free, one-night-only art event will be held at Bar Twenty3, 503 12th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203. Over 60 innovative and upcoming Nashville visual artists will refresh your palette with delicious paintings, sweet photography, and cool mixed-media. "Sweet Tea" is the latest in a series of successful quarterly exhibitions that support artistic innovation and offer alternative visual arts in non-traditional spaces.

UNTITLED has introduced new artists to the community since 1991, is comprised of several hundred artists, and has left an indelible stamp on the burgeoning Nashville art scene. UNTITLED members include staff and exhibiting artists from Zeitgeist, Dangenart, Plowhaus, Twist Gallery, and (fov) gallery. UNTITLED members also include art faculty, students, and graduates from Watkins College of Art and Design, Belmont University, Vanderbilt University, Savannah College of Art and Design, Lipscomb University, TSU, Fisk University and MTSU.

"Sweet Tea" will take place Friday, September 14th from 6 to 10 p.m. in Bar Twenty3, 503 12th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203. Bar Twenty3 has been selected as one of the top 100 clubs in the nation by Nightclub and Bar Magazine. Admission is free, and the public is invited to see what Untitled has brewing, meet and mingle with the artists, all while viewing art, and refreshing their spirits to the downbeat melodies of DJ Tony Solo from Evansville, Indiana as well as Bar Twenty3's myriad of drinks and snacks provided by Untitled. Patrons may purchase artwork by cash, check or charge and may take their pieces home with them at 10pm that evening. Untitled is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting artists, reaching new art audiences, and offering alternative visual arts experiences in the Nashville community. The group's meetings and shows provide opportunities for artists to connect, collaborate and learn from each other. All artists at all levels and in all media are invited to attend weekly meetings at Kazu in Cummins Station, and to participate in quarterly exhibitions. The deadline for artists to register for "Sweet Tea" is September 9th. New artists are encouraged to show. PANEL RESTORATION
You know those big white things we hang artwork on at shows? Well it’s time to make them look beautiful again.

The small amount of time you spend can keep one panel looking sharp for up to a year. Stop by, grab a brush, and slap some paint; you can be in and out in a flash or show up early and stay late. Our members and patrons have come to expect a professional installation at Untitled shows and this is a big part of meeting that expectation.

When: Saturday, September 1^st 9:30am – noon
Where: Our storage unit, centrally located off I-65 and Wedgewood close to the fairgrounds.

Title announcement, venue, and call for poster designs

We have a title! Untitled’s Fall show title is “Sweet Tea”.

We also have a venue! “Sweet Tea” will be held at Bar Twenty3 on 12^th Avenue South in the Gulch. Yes, you might remember we had a show there called “Faces” a few years ago.

We need a poster! It’s time to design a poster. Voting will take place at the August 29^th meeting. So you will need to bring a printout of your design. It doesn’t have to be poster size, just big enough so that we can all see the design.

Poster Design Guidelines:

Media: digital, drawing, painting, etc. The design should leave room for important text & images about the event.

VOTE for a title! and other stuff

Hello!

Here’s what happened at last night’s meeting…

Suggestions were collected for the fall show title. Some suggestions were great. Some were ok. Some suggestions wanted to teach you about exercising muscles you wouldn’t normally think about exercising (hmmm!); while several others suggested that art shows revolve around the consumption of alcohol (gasp!); and then some were implying a disaster =’(

We discussed things such as a ‘tufted titmouse’ and realized that those are really fun words to say (go ahead, say it out loud). We talked about blind bats and humans using ‘echolocation’, probably not very useful at an art show.

Thanks to everyone who expressed ideas and voted. If you missed out, maybe you can voice your own suggestions for the winter show at a future brainstorming meeting. But in the meantime…

We narrowed down a long list by votes and settled with 12 lucky finalists. To see them and vote you’ll have to visit this survey:

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for making our annual fundraiser, GLOW, a success. If your work sold at the show, you will be able to pick up your check at next week’s meeting on August 8^th. We will alert you if there are any changes.

ART DROP OFF & VOLUNTEER CONFIRMATION:

July 25^th from 6-8pm at the Bar Car. The Bar Car is located in Cummins Station (209 10^th avenue south). Easiest parking is in the lot across the street on the corner of 10^th avenue south and Lea street or on 10^th avenue south on the street right in front of the building.

VOLUNTEERS: YES, you have to come to the drop-off to confirm your volunteer shift. Please email us if this is a problem. If you’d still like to volunteer but haven’t registered, come to the drop-off. Admission to GLOW is free for volunteers.

Drop-off/confirmation takes about 15 minutes. Come any time between 6 and 8. Late work will not be accepted. If you register for GLOW and decide later not to participate, please email info@untitlednashville.org to let us know your change in plans. Otherwise we'll worry about you.

Here's what to bring to and be prepared for at the drop-off:

1. Your work, which must be dry and ready to hang (wired, or with other appropriate hanging hardware). PLEASE BE SURE YOUR NAME AND THE TITLE OF YOUR PIECE ARE ON THE BACK. Work may include original art, prints, or craft items smaller than 11x17 inches and does not have to glow. If you bring small works, be sure to bring a typed page listing each piece, including title, medium, and price. Pieces for the small works table must be dropped off at the Wednesday night drop-off and artists are responsible for taking unsold work with them at 11pm.
Again, this is for GLOW ONLY. Untitled will keep 10% of small work sales. You must have work entered in the main GLOW exhibition to submit art for the small works table.

Calling all GLOWing artists

Hi there,

Well, the time is here. It’s the last week before the GLOW show. 10 days in fact. This Wednesday will be the last meeting before the GLOW show. Are you ready???

Where do we meet? Kazu in Cummins Station – 7:30pm. Easiest PARKING is in the corner lot across the street. Look for the Kazu sign.

Still need posters/cards to hang up and pass out? Come to the meeting. We’ll give you some.

GLOW FEES:
The $15 fee for Exhibiting Artists ($20 if your work requires blacklight and you do not provide your own) is due at the July 18 meeting or postmarked no later than Friday, July 20 to Untitled, PO Box 40232, Nashville, TN 37204. Exhibiting Artists and confirmed volunteers will be admitted free to the event.

GLOW: An Illuminated Art Event

UNTITLED’S FIFTH ANNUAL SUMMER FUNDRAISER,

“GLOW: An Illuminated Art Event”

Nashville, TN.

On Friday night, July 27, 2007 the BarCar in Cummins Station will open its doors to Untitled’s annual midsummer’s night show, “Glow: An Illuminated Art Event.” This one-night only art gala and silent auction is sure to get “glowing” reviews with its featured luminous & black-lit art. The excitement will include prize drawings, interactive art displays, live hip-hop dance, & music by D.J. Synapse Trap.

The BarCar in Cummins Station hosts this night of uncensored art for unlimited audiences that will feature diverse art from artists located in the Nashville and the middle Tennessee region. Local photography group, SNAP, will host a digital projection slideshow themed, "Night", across a 9 foot screen.

The art party of the summer, “Glow: An Illuminated Art Event” celebrates more than a decade-old Nashville tradition of self-lit and black-lit art shows and hopes to raise money for Untitled’s own artist-run non-profit organization and its unique art programs.

In its sixteen years of existence, Untitled has offered emerging artists opportunities to shine and develop their talents while illuminating the Nashville community with radiant artistic perspectives and incandescent artistic experiences. Untitled artists are a culturally diverse group who work democratically and cooperatively outside the traditionally conservative gallery setting.

Join us Friday July 27th from 7- 11:00 p.m. in the BarCar in Cummins Station, located at 209 10th Avenue south. A $5 donation is requested at the door with 10% of art sales benefiting Untitled Artists Group.

Patrons may enter to win door prizes provided by businesses such as Plaza Artist Materials, Essense Day Spa, Blue Coast Burrito, Kazu Restaurant, and many more!
